Glenn Smith

Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Glenn Smith is a highly experienced executive, who has more than three decades of diverse international business experience involving both private and public companies. He has a seasoned view of what it takes to successfully partner with multiple stakeholders in differing jurisdictions, to ensure success through the application of entrepreneurial drive and strategic execution.

Glenn's senior leadership and operational experience spans numerous aspects of the Energy and Infrastructure asset classes, encompassing institutional fund raising, structured financing, merger, acquisition, and restructuring, with a special focus on renewable energy and sustainable resource development. For the ten years prior to joining the Verto team Glenn held a number of C level and Managing Director roles in both private and publicly held companies.

Glenn holds a Bachelor of Engineering with honors from the University of West England and has the distinctions of Eur.Ing., CEng, MIMechE and MIGasE.

Wayne Young

Managing Director & Chief Financial Officer

Wayne Young is a hands-on executive who works closely with Verto's investors as well as its investees through all phases of each investment. With three decades of experience managing a wide variety of diverse situations Wayne understands the critical balance between strong stakeholder relationships and the ability to navigate commercial nuances in order to achieve desired outcomes.

Wayne's leadership and operating experience spans multiple industries, including renewable energy, merchant investing and consumer goods, where he has created successful corporate partnerships, executed strategic restructurings and achieved commercial success with global utility companies and other energy industry actors. For the ten years prior to joining the Verto team Wayne was president of a major Canadian solid biofuel manufacturer and marketer where he gained extensive experience in the global wood pellet trade.

Wayne holds BA (Honors) and MAcc degrees from the University of Waterloo and is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant.

Leslie Dow

Investor Relations & Communications Manager

Leslie Dow is an Investor Relations & Communications professional who manages key external and internal relationships for the development, acquisition and management of Verto's international Waste-to-Value portfolio. With nearly a decade of relationship management experience, Leslie knows the value of collaborating across stakeholder groups to ensure messaging of an organization's mission is consistently presented.

Leslie's experience covers project management, transactions, communications, marketing as well as corporate meetings and events in the renewable energy, finance and hospitality sectors, where she has worked closely with project team members, the investment community and multiple external parties ranging from C-level executives to front line staff. Prior to joining the Verto team, Leslie worked in both the public and private sectors.

Leslie holds a BA in Communications with a concentration in Hospitality from the University of New Hampshire.

Jonathan Bova

Managing Director

Jonathan Bova is a versatile investment management professional whose extensive global private equity and corporate lending experience supports Verto activities. For over a decade, Jonathan has been investing in power and infrastructure assets on behalf of global institutions and he understands that, in addition to structure, strong relationships and clear communication between all investment participants is crucial to success.

Throughout his career, Jonathan has demonstrated the ability to take an investment from its origination to a successful close. He is driven by the challenge of mitigating risks through careful structuring and alignment of interests to meet the needs of both investors andinvestees. Before joining the Verto team, Jonathan was an analyst in John Hancock’s Bond and Corporate Finance Group focused on the power and infrastructure sector.

Jonathan holds a BS in International Business with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from Northeastern University.

Gabriel Montana

Managing Director

Gabriel Montana is a seasoned international private equity and corporate finance executive with over 20 years of industry practice. Experienced in complex transactions in emerging and developed markets, Gabriel brings a keen understanding of the multiple factors driving value creation and preservation for investors, and the structuring requirements to foster successful business ventures.

Gabriel's career has covered the entire private equity investment cycle, including deal origination; evaluation and structuring of investment and divestment transactions; member of the board of directors in investee companies in multiple jurisdictions; restructuring of distressed assets; design of tax-efficient shareholding structures; litigation and others. Gabriel has been fortunate to work in diverse industries including infrastructure, automotive, consumer goods and renewable energy.

Gabriel holds a BS (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de los Andes, and an MBA from Georgetown University. He is also an "approved person" by the UK's financial regulator (FCA).

Michael Naylor

Board Member

Michael Naylor has been a board member and private investor in a number of successful clean energy related businesses, most notably K Road Solar LLC and K Road DG LLC in North America; and New Energy Finance Ltd (sold to Bloomberg) and Soltech Energy Sweden AB in Europe.

Michael is a Non Executive Director of the London FTSE listed Jupiter Green Investment Trust plc, where he is Chairman of the board. Advisory Board appointments include the $400 million Toronto based water private equity fund XPV Water Partners LLP, and the renewable energy focused $4 billion AUM Funds of the emerging markets private equity firm Actis based in London.

Michael was a founding board member of the NTR Foundation, a Dublin based non-profit created by the Roche family office to address the challenges posed by the issues of climate change, resource sustainability and security of energy supply.

In 2013, Michael joined the board of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).

William Kriegel

Board Member

William Kriegel founded Sithe Energies, Inc. in 1984, which grew into one of the largest independent power producers in the world with operations in the United States and in Asia and where Mr. Kriegel served as Chairman, President and CEO. Within two decades Sithe’s portfolio grew from a single facility to 59 generating power plants. Sithe eventually sold for over $5 billion in enterprise value in 2000.

In 2002 Mr. Kriegel founded K Road Power, which owned, operated and managed the Boston Generating Portfolio, 3,000 MW of generating capacity in the North Eastern United States. After restructuring and developing the company, he led the successful exit of the Boston Generating assets for over $3 billion in 2007.

In 2009 Mr. Kriegel founded K Road Power Solar, which developed utility scale PV solar developments in the U.S. K Road Power Solar was successfully exited in 2013. In 2014 Mr. Kriegel founded K Road DG, which took majority control in Green Charge Network, an energy storage solution company. Green Charge Network was sold to Engie, in stages between 2016 and 2018.

William Kriegel has also served in various leadership and board positions at several water and waste management companies, including Aqua Alliance, Vivendi North America and Montenay International. He currently serves on the Board of the University of Montana Western Foundation.
